CA Notary Prep exists for one reason: to get you through the California notary public exam on your first attempt. Your 6-hour course gives you the basics; this site and the study guide make sure you can answer the exam questions on them.

How the material is built

Every rule, number and definition on this site is taken from the official Notary Public Handbook published by the California Secretary of State, and from the Government Code and Civil Code sections it reprints. Each practice question points back to the rule it tests.

When the Secretary of State changes a fee, a procedure or the law itself, the pages and the study guide are updated, and the date at the top of each page changes with it.

What this site is not

This is an independent study resource. It is not affiliated with the California Secretary of State or CPS HR Consulting, it does not register you for the exam or replace the required 6-hour course, and it does not give legal advice. For your application and exam registration, always use the official sos.ca.gov pages.
